With the first fortnight of the new year about to come to an end, it also brings with it to a close another week of history and bustle in the entertainment world. And just like with the other film industries across the globe, the ones down South, too, grabbed plenty of headlines for their developments. From film releases featuring big names like Mammootty, Ravi Teja and Udhayanidhi Stalin to Darbar and Sarileru Neekevvaru entering the 200-crore club to Vijay Deverakonda and Rajinikanth's new films announced with a bang – here are the newsmakers who made the biggest noise down South this past week. 2.) New entrants in the 200-crore club

Both Rajinikanth's Darbar and Mahesh Babu's Sarileru Nekkevvaru grossed over 200 crore at the global box-office, making it the fifth such instance for Thalaivar after Kabali, Enthiran, 2.0 and Petta, and Prince's first entry into the coveted 200-crore club.

3.) New film announcements

Rajinikanth again grabbed headlines along with Vijay Deverakonda for the announcement of their forthcoming movies. While Rajini will be collaborating with Kaithi and Master Director Lokesh Kanagaraj for #Thalaivar169 , Deverakonda has joined hands with filmmaker Puri Jagannadh for Fighter.

4.) Nithiin and fiance Shalini's destination wedding

Tollywood star Nithiin is headed to Dubai to tie the knot with fiance and MBA graduate Shalini in what is being reported to be an extremely close-knit affair, comprising not more than 50-60 guests.

5.) Kamal Haasan and Nagarjuna to present Ranveer Singh

Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International and Akkineni Nagarjuna’s Annapurna Studios have joined hands with Reliance Entertainment to present the Tamil and Telugu versions of Director Kabir Khan's much-awaited sports film, ‘83, which recounts the historic victory of then Indian cricket team led by Kapil Dev.
