The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for India. Everyday, we are losing lives and the health care system has collapsed in numerous Indian states. Doctors are trying out a combination of drugs to cure patients as there is no specific cure yet. In the middle of all this, we are dealing with misinformation and high-handed attitude of some individuals, especially politicians. A famous political leader was quoted as saying that she is safe from COVID-19 as she drinks cow urine. The statement has been trolled in mainstream media and actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee took to social media to vent her anger and exasperation.
After her comment, a man told her that people who do not have faith disregard such advice from spiritual leaders. Devoleena Bhattacharjee was quick to slam him down. She said that there is a vast difference between faith and being blind towards something. She said that people needed scientific know-how to survive this virus that is destroying families across India.
The actress said it was ethically wrong to promote something unsubstantiated during such a crisis. We have seen that medical experts have rebuffed ideas like kadha (concoction), Ayurvedic medicines and so on. The only thing that seems to be effective is masking up and social distancing. The promotion of cow dung and cow urine have been slammed by many doctors. We read how some people smeared themselves with cow dung as it was supposed to kill germs. It is nice to see Devoleena Bhattacharjee coming forward to slam what is potentially hazardous.
