Imaad Shah plays the role of a documentary maker on Posham Pa. He has been a part of films as an actor, musician, lyricist. He even has his own career as an independent musician as part of the duo Madboy Mink. He quite lives up to the reputation of being Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak's son. He talks to us about picking the film Posham Pa and juggling multiple careers.
Int: What made you pick Posham Pa as your next film?
Imaad: Because of the characters, because of the subject matter, the actors definitely. I also got a chance to play a Sikh character which is something I was wanting to do. And the script which is very interesting and the director has done a good job.
Int: Your character is filming a documentary about the 3 serial killers played by Mahie Gill, Ragini Khanna and Sayani Gupta. How does your character pan out in the movie?
Imaad: So, me and Shivani (Raghuvanshi) are making a documentary about the serial killers. So we kind of go on a journey of unraveling the story and understanding what happened. Seeing what is true and what is made up, it’s all blurred lines. So we have to create a narrative from what happened.
Int: The movie is based on real incidents. Did you know about the crimes before doing the movie? How did it affect you?
Imaad: There are a lot of complexities and we don’t run away from it either. We’re not trying to simplify it and make it just an entertaining film. Our characters particularly have this discussion going on which is kind of interesting.
Int: You make some dope music with your music group Madboy+Mink. Do you try to pick films based on your music schedule?
Imaad: I think there’s like phases when you have multiple jobs you try to focus on one thing at a time. Sometimes I’ll go do a show and then come and shoot the whole night or shoot the whole day and do a show at night. So it’s not that hard to juggle both. Plus music and films are closely connected too as art forms. I even want to make my own films in the future. So they are not that disconnected.
Int: So when you do a film do you feel the pressure of living up to your father’s reputation (Nasseruddin Shah)?
Imaad: Yeah, but I choose not to think about it much. I just focus on my work. Try and be as solid as an actor as I can. That’s all I focus on.
While Posham Pa may not have been dumbed down to become entertaining, it has received rave reviews. Watch Imaad Shah play a vital supporting role in the highly-rated movie Posham Pa, now streaming on ZEE5.
