After weeks of #MeToo allegations against Anu Malik, where several high-profile female singers from Sona Mohapatra to Neha Bhasin and Alisha China to Shweta Pandit had come forth with disturbing accounts of sexual misconduct against him, the celebrated Bollywood composer has finally stepped down as judge from the current season of Indian Idol. A short while ago, a source from the channel on which the widely popular singing reality show airs confirmed to IANS that Anu Malik has voluntarily decided to quit as judge following exacerbating outcry against his continued appearance on Indian Idol.
This isn’t the first time that Malik would be quitting the show midway. Last year, too, he had stepped down as judge after Mohapatra had levelled allegations against his sexual conduct with her. Expecting the storm to have subsided, the channel and Malik decided to reunite for the eleventh season, but were in for a rude shock when Mohapatra not only became vocal again, but also found support from Bhasin and Pandit over similar allegations against the versatile composer. Mohapatra had gained immense support from various quarters over the past few weeks in pressurising the channel to drop Malik from Indian Idol season 11, eventually culminating in the latter stepping down.
On his part, Anu Malik had posted on social media a couple of days ago how every single one of the allegations levelled against him were “false and unverified”, and how they’ve been leaving his family and him “in pain” and “in a dark space”. Only time will tell, how this entire sordid saga unfolds. Stay tuned to BollywoodLife for all the latest scoops and updates.
