Indian Idol 12 is surrounded with controversy ever since the Amit Kumar episode had aired. He had opened said that he did not enjoy the 'Indian Idol 12' episode he graced and revealed that he was asked to praise every contestant. Even the viewers did not like the episode and had criticised it on social media. Post that scene, in the recent episodes, Aditya Narayan was seen taking a dig at Amit Kumar by asking the guests, Anuradha Paudwal and Kumar Sanu if their praises were genuine or they'd been told to shower them. It was a Shravan Rathod special episode and in an interview with ETimes, Shravan Rathod's music partner, Nadeem gave his take on the episode. He said that he would want to give each contestant who sang on Saturday a break and make another 'Aashiqui' with them.
He was also asked who is his favourite and he shared that if he reveals it that might become an issue. He also feels that it might affect the judges thought process. He feels each one has their own distinct style. Shravan Rathod's son, Sanjeev also gave his opinion on the episode. He said, "I felt very happy that Nadeem-Shravan's music is still hot in 2021. Every singer flowed with our songs seamlessly and their passion was to be seen to be believed." Shravan Rathod's partner Nadeem's name was not mentioned in the episode and he was asked if he felt ignored. Nadeem said, "That's fine. Shravan and I were together for 20 years. We might not have been in regular touch since the last 15 years but none of my sweet memories with him have faded away." However, Sanjeev Rathod said that Nadeem should have been approached for the show. He said, "It was not a Nadeem-Shravan live show or a Nadeem-Shravan celebration. It was a tribute to Shravan. But having said that, I must say that they should have approached Nadeem uncle for a byte, just like they approached Kavita Krishnamurthy, Govinda etc."
Sanjeev Rathod and Nadeem were also asked if the songs chosen were good as most melodious chartbusters Raaz and Dhadkan were missing. Sanjeev Rathod felt the songs were good while Nadeem said that Nadeem-Shravan's album has so many songs that personal choices may vary and hence it is not easy for every song to froth up in everybody's list. Sanjeev Rathod was asked about the damage control that Aditya Narayan has been trying to do, ever since Amit Kumar spoke out. He was asked if Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal were asked to give a good reply to Aditya's question. Sanjeev Rathod said that he cannot comment on it as he has not seen the episode and he did not even read the comments. He said that the makers must have been shaken up as Amit Kumar went out to say some things and hence they can defend themselves.
"But I know for a fact that Sanu sir and Paudwal ji do not lie. They are blunt. They will not say anything for money. If someone spoils their song, they will be candid about it. And, let's not forget that Anu Malik, who was Nadeem-Shravan's professional rival, was sitting right there; he would've pointed out if anything was wrong, "he added. Sanjeev Rathod was asked if he respects Amit Kumar's point of view about the episode. He said that Amit Kumar was right in his place but he did enjoy the episode dedicated to his father.
