One of the newbies who is making a splash on Indian TV is Sai Ketan Rao. He plays the role of Raghav in Mehndi Hai Rachne Waali. The young man who has worked in Telugu shows and web series is getting a lot of love for his intense and engaging performance as the arrogant businessman. The credit for the unusual casting of the show goes to Sandip Sikcand who is the producer. He told BollywoodLife in an Exclusive chat, "Bollywood and Tollywood are like step sisters but the good kind. For years we've been remaking some of the hit south blockbusters that has been instrumental in resurrecting the careers of some of the biggest superstars we have now. Although while we were adapting stories, Bollywood didn't really open doors to south actors."
Sandip Sikcand's last show Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum was a rage on social media. He is also the writer of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Sandip also brought Anjali Anand to the forefront with his show, Dhhai Kilo Prem. Mehndi Hai Rachne Waali stars newcomer Shivangi Khedkar and Sai Ketan Rao who has done a bit of work in Tollywood. Sikcand tells us that many actors who could not find a place in Bollywood went on to become successes in the Telugu film industry. He tells us, "I think it was about time that we gave a break to South Indian actors here. They have some brilliant actors. Though language has been a barrier but actors these days are proficient in Hindi as much as they are in their mother tongue. I have been around for over 2 decades now and I feel it is my responsibility to make a difference and start a trend."
Sandip Sikcand is thrilled to see the kind of admiration and love Sai Ketan Rao is getting from the pan-India audience. He told us, "Sai Ketan is a dedicated actor and had just started out. When I saw his first audition I just knew, he was fit to play Raghav. I am sure he must be really happy with his social media presence now that people from other parts of India and abroad recognise his work. The show went on air in February and three months into it, he has number of fan clubs dedicated to him. It is safe to say that my risk did pay off, just like it did in the past."
He also urged other producers to create a more extensive sea of opportunities for young actors. He signed off saying, "We have so much talent so we really need to look outside of our circles."
