Dipika Chikhlia played the role of Sita in Ramayan and became supremely popular. In a recent interaction, however, she said that given a choice, she would like to play Kaikeyi. As you might know, in Ramayan, Kaikeyi was Ram’s stepmother who asked her husband Dashratha to send Ram, Lakshman and Sita to an exile for 14 years.
On the other hand, Sunil Lahiri, who played Lakshman's character, said that he would love to play Raavan as the character had many shades and would give an actor many varieties to perform.
Aired again after 33 years, Ramayan has set a world record and became the highest viewed entertainment program globally.
“Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most-watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April,” DD National posted on twitter.
Sunil Lahiri aka Laxman expressed in happiness on Twitter and wrote, "“Duniya ka sabse zyada dekha jaane wale show ka record banane wale program Ko Ek Bar aur dekhne ka aur sarhaane ka avsar#Ramayan, 4 May se har roz shaam7:30 baje @starplus par."
Talking about the success of Ramayan and Uttar Ramayan, Dipika said, "I have not analysed. I am not the sort of person who sits down and analyses. The only immediate thing I can think of is -- it has always had a story and a background. It always had a legacy and an era. When people started watching I would get messages that 'now, we are also part of that legacy and the magic'."
"I think the word of mouth that people had loved it 30 years ago was the first kick-off. And once they started seeing and watching I think they kind of believed in the magic. I think that is how the circle moved. The series already had a name for itself and I think that the re-telecast rode on the success of original success. That's how I see it," she added.
