A 2-time, National-Award-winning actress, who shall not be named in this story, recently said that her 2014 National-Award-winning film was what had ushered feminism and strong feminist characters into Bollywood, leaving many industry insiders and entertainment news followers aghast at her preposterous claims. So, in a recent exclusive interview with BollywoodLife, we decided to quiz Vidya Balan (a National Award winner herself) on the topic, especially given how she has been essaying strong feminist characters with aplomb long before said 2014 film, without ever needing to beating her drum about it, always allowing her work to take centrestage.
Addressing feminism in Bollywood with her trademark modesty, Vidya Balan said, "No...no...no, I think, firstly, over time, we are where we are because of what the women before us have gone through, the women before us have done, and in films, all that the actresses before us have done. It's not like it's (been) a desert and this (feminism) is suddenly an oasis. It's like small rivulets slowly joining the river, it's more like that." Extremely pertinent points from a extremely cognizant and articulate actress. Watch all what she has to say in the video above.
