After years of being in the doldrums, the official Tamil remake of Dulquer Salmaan's cult Malayalam movie, Charlie, is finally arriving, but not in the way we had hoped for. For starters, the trailer of Maara fails to evoke that same magical fairytale feel and surreal romantic vibe of Charlie. Secondly, as fine an actor as R Madhavan is, his look does not create that same swag as that of Dulquer's despite the makers going for almost the same appearance. As for how Shraddha Srinath and Sshivada adapt to their roles, well, it's too early to say as the trailer hardly offers any insight into what to expect from their performances. Releasing on 8th January on Amazon Prime Video, Maara is directed by Dhilip Kumar, and produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Shruti Nallappa, with music by Ghibran and cinematography by Karthik Muthukumar and Dinesh Krishnan. BL Verdict: For now, the Maara trailer lowers our expectations for the Tamil remake of the Malayalam hit, Charlie.
