He lost his life due to kidney failure, and the news of the same was confirmed by the filmmaker Ashoke Pandit. The actor was a big name in the entertainment industry of India, and he was loved by millions. He had shaped the memories of Indian sitcoms for an entire generation through his role in the show Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai. His last rites were held today, on October 26, 2025. At the funeral, multiple co-workers of his showed up to pay their last respects. One such video from the funeral is going viral, where his on-screen son Rajesh Kumar could be seen lifting his funeral bier.

In the video, he can be seen lifting up the funeral bier of the actor, a ritual typically done by close family members, typically sons.
