To elevate Indian cinema to an international level, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol revealed the bronze statue of their cherished iconic roles Raj and Simran from the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in London’s Leicester Square, celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary. The pair gathered beneath an umbrella on a rainy Thursday while unveiling the statue. Kajol, alongside her daughter Nysa and son Yug, stood with Shah Rukh Khan in front of the statue. On Instagram, SRK posted memorable moments with photos and videos of himself, Kajol, and Akshaye Widhani, the CEO of Yash Raj Films, along with a video of the statue's unveiling.
He began his caption with the iconic DDLJ dialogue and wrote, "Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Chhoti Chhoti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain, Senorita! Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)!"
He continued, "Incredibly delighted that DDLJ is the first Indian film to be honoured with a statue in the Scenes in the Square trail..A big thank you to everyone in the UK for making this possible."
Shah Rukh also encouraged fans to visit the installation. "Come meet Raj & Simran if and when you are in London… we would love to see you make more memories with DDLJ…", he added.
The statue, depicting Raj and Simran in a dance pose from the beloved song Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna, now stands with cinematic icons like Harry Potter, Bridget Jones, Mary Poppins, and Batman in an expanding tribute to movie history at Leicester Square.
