Charlie’s feud with Taylor Swift
In 2024, reports started coming up that suggested that she had targeted pop icon Taylor Swift in her song Sympathy is a Knife from Brat. The lyrics of the song go something like, "Don't want to see her backstage at my boyfriend's show, fingers crossed behind my back; I hope they break up quick."
While Charlie publicly claimed that the lyrics have no connection to Taylor Swift. People think they are related to Matt Healy, the lead singer of the pop band The 1975.
How Charlie started her career
Charli XCX signed up with Atlantic Records when she was merely 16. At the age of 20, she released True Romance, which was her debut album. When she started posting her songs on MySpace, she added XCX to her name so that she could have a unique stage name. Originally, XCX was her MSN Messenger username, which she chose because she thought it was cool. While in a conversation with Rolling Stone, Charlie told them that people have thought that XCX stands for “Kiss Kiss,” but she only chose it because it sounded catchy and that it seemed like it meant something like “X-Rated content.”
After dropping some demos on MySpace, she got herself noticed by Atlantic Records, and the rest is history.
