With lockdown having struck the nation for almost three quarters of 2020, OTT saw a mega-boom, with web series and web films encapsulating a nation in a vice-like grip, really putting the “binge” in binge-watching. And among the streaming content that arrived, a handful of it stood out for their quality, made all the more special with the performances that laced them. So, today, as a part of our #BLBestof2020 special, we are here to talk about the Best Actor in a web series/web film for which we have shortlisted six of who we feel are the best candidates, and it's up to you to vote and tell us who are the best among them...
Pankaj Tripathi — Mirzapur 2
What can be said about
Pankaj Tripathi that already hasn't been said? He's fantastic in every role, completely inhabiting every role he plays, but Kaleen Bhaiya of Mirzapur 2 has got to be the brightest jewel in his sparkling crown. Kay Kay Menon — Special Ops
It's been some time since we've seen
Kay Kay Menon in an author-backed, meaty role, and it took a Director like Neeraj Pandey to give him a part where the versatile actor could completely sink his teeth into.
Arshad Warsi — Asur
What many hardcore movie-buffs knew since a long time was that
Arshad Warsi is so much more than an exceptional comic talent, capable of playing just about any character, after we saw him in 2005's Sehar, and it was finally discovered by the general audience courtesy his stellar act in Asur. Pratik Gandhi — Scam 1992
When you talk about roles of a lifetime, Pratik Gandhi truly got one with Scam 1992, and boy, did he knock it out of a park, thrusting himself headlong into the psyche of the OTT junta with one fell swoop.
Jaideep Ahlawat — Paatal Lok
Box-office constraints never permitted
Jaideep Ahlawat to bag a lead role in a Bollywood film. But when the freedom of the digital space handed him the opportunity, in what can again be described as the role of a lifetime, he grabbed it with both hands.
Surya Sharma — Undekhi
The dark horse of 2020 in the OTT space, but with a performance no less that the aforementioned on the list — Surya Sharma was so good in the brilliant Undekhi that you loved to hate his character as he made your blood boil. Speaking about being nominated in such esteemed company, Surya Sharma exclusively told BollywoodLife, “It's an absolute honor to be a part of this award function. All the love received from the audience for Undekhi and the fact that it has been nominated is reason enough for me to feel like a winner already. It's a great privilege to be nominated alongside great actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Kay Kay Menon. I would like to thank SonyLIV and Applause Entertainment for giving me this opportunity. From working with a great director to sharing the screen with such a talented pool of co-actors, Undekhi marked a new milestone in my life. Cheers to being Rinku aka Rajender Singh Atwal.”
So, what are you waiting for? Get voting and decide who among these six is your Best Web Series/Web Movie Actor of 2020.
