It tries to be Sex and the City. It tries to keep up with Keeping Up With the Kardashians. It even tries to stir gossip like
Gossip Girl, and turn Hum Saath Saath Hain into 'Hum Sassy Sassy Hain', but while the first two shows aren't making anybody's list of must-watch TV anytime soon, what they do quite well is present voyeuristic pleasure, whereas the other two showed how you can run amok with gossip. Netflix's new web series Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, presented by Karan Johar, does none of that, but instead, offers an inside look into the lives of four women, whom, if given a chance, wouldn't be included in anyone's list of famous Bollywood Wives, least of all ones drawn up by industry insiders themselves.

A not-so-insider's look is given into the monotonous lives of Maheep Kapoor (Sanjay Kapoor's wife),
Neelam Kothari (a fairly well-known actress herself back in the day and now, Samir Soni's wife), Seema Khan (Sohail Khan's wife) and Bhavana Pandey (Chunky Panday's wife and Ananya Panday's mother), their daily shenanigans and what keeps them interested as also what keeps the wheels of their friendship churning. However, none of the sneak peek's shown are either that sneaky or even remotely interesting.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's cameo is the only saving grace in this trainwreck meant strictly for the one percenters, among whom, too, there wouldn't be many takers. If not for these two star cameos, especially SRK displaying his legendary wit, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives wouldn't have a solitary redeeming quality. What's not
If your idea of a bird's eye view into Bollywood lives, includes a sneak peek into the humdrum existence of a quarted not-so-powerful women in the industry, married to not-so-powerful men, and if you don't mind wasting your time on their endless loudmouth chatter, accentuated by screechy, fake accents, about designer clothes, blow-dried hair, fancy foreign sojourns, ballroom dances, nepotism and social-media trolling, all of which we're already well aware of, while offering no real backdoor insight into their lives, then watch Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives by all means. For the rest of us, the irony of a Bollywood quartet needing to create their own
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara moments or Neelam talking about a comeback to films or Maheep Kapoor prying into her neighbour's lives or the ladies partaking in social service with all their glitter and glamour intact isn't lost on us. Even the rest of the cameos, including one by KJo himself, do precious little to lift the web series. BL Verdict
In one episode, Karan Johar question himself, “Why the %^&! should I watch a show about four women who don’t have jobs?” That about sums up Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. I'm going with a more-than-generous 0.5/5bstars, and that, too, solely for Shah Rukh and Gauri's cameo.
