Kunal Kemmu (Lootcase)
To say that Kunal Kemmu is anything less that one of the pillars of Lootcase would be sacrilege. If he was all brawn, bravadao and diabolism in Malang, then Lootcase saw him bring a lot of depth to go with the humour of his character.
His track may be over in Mirzapur, but it was fantastic while it lasted, and much like Ali Fazal, Divyendu brought in several layers to his characters in Mirzapur season 2.
Those who've been closely following Arshad Warsi's career from the days of Sehar, wouldn't be surprised with what he did in Asur. The rest — and there's many of them — received a stinging reality check of why he's so much more than just a fine comic talent.
Unlike, Arshad Warsi, Kay Kay Menon has always been known for his dramatic chops. Much like Arshad, he's seldom got the opportunity to sink his teeth into such roles on screen until Neeraj Pandey decided to offer him Special Ops.
The out-an-out surprise package of the year, Karan Tacker shed his soap-opera, reality-show image, and how! He not only played diametrically opposite to what his TV fans were used to seeing him in, but accumulated a whole bunch of other fans, too, by knocking it out of the park both with his nuanced acting chops and heroic swag, striking a perfect balance between classy mannerism and a massy persona.
Good actors don't need leading roles or the focus to constantly be on them to shine, and Rajkummar Rao displayed that with aplomb in Director Anurag Basu's delectable, ensemble, black comedy, Ludo.
If good actors don't need the focus constantly on them, then it takes great actors to chew the scenery and make us want more despite the focus constantly being on them, and that's what Amitabh Bachchan displayed with the brilliance that only he could by elevating a strictly average film like Gulabo Sitabo by several notches.
Vikrant Massey (Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare)
If you wish to see how an actor cam make a role memorable in very limited screen time, then look no further than Vikrant Massey in Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakate Sitare.
Rohit Saraf (Mismatched)
The dark horse of the year on streaming services, Rohit Saraf emerged from nowhere and impressed one and all with a dexterous performance in a not-so-easy character.
