Following the overwhelming response received by its trailer, Malayalam movie Joji, which brought back the successful trio of actor Fahadh Faasil, Director Dileesh Pothan and writer Syam Pushkaran, has been receiving rave reviews and no small amoutn of views post its direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. Presenting a unique perspective on William Shakespeare's world-famous tragedy, Macbeth, the film is set in the COVID-19 era and juxtaposes Macbeth's themes of greed and lust for power against a contemporary setting. It's also the first Malayalam film set in the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, Fahadh Faasil has played many a memorable character in his lofty career, including that of Mahesh in Maheshinte Prathikaaram, which was, incidentally, directed by Dileesh Pothan and written by Syam Pushkaran. So, where does he rank his eponymous role as Joji amongst all his other icnonic portrayals? Well, thankfully, the actor recently shed light on the query.
Opening up about how challenging it was to get into the skin of Joji, Fahadh Faasil said, “I took a long time to crack Joji as a character, it’s definitely my toughest role till date. Tougher than my last film with DileeshIn fact, even Dileesh said that this was the toughest film he has shot.”
Directed by Dileesh Pothan and written by Syam Pushkaran, Joji is produced by Bhavana Studios in association with the production companies, Fahadh Faasil and Friends, and Working Class Hero. The crime drama stars Fahadh Faasil alongside Baburaj, Shammi Thilakan, Alistair Alex, and Unnimaya Prasad, Basil Joseph and Sunny PN in prominent roles.
