A lot of films are now taking the web route to release as the lockdown seems to go on forever. So is the case with Jyothika's Ponmagal Vandhal, a legal drama. The trailer was of Ponmagal Vandhal was dropped recently as the release date of the film is inching closer. The daunting trailer begins with a story of children being killed in a village. Jyothika plays a lawyer in the film fighting a hopeless case. She struggles to find the truth as there is no evidence to support her case. On the other hand, societal pressure takes a toll on her mental health. It's edgy and will keep you squirming in your seats/ couch with excitement and anticipation. Have a look at the trailer here:
Meanwhile, Jyothika opened up with News Today on the digital release on Ponmagal Vandhal, saying, "Following corona outbreak and lockdown, we didn’t have much choice. There are several big films waiting in the queue for release once cine halls are reopened. Hence came the idea of direct release on OTT. Also, the platform is the place for content-oriented films. A female-centric film releasing across 200 countries is certainly huge."
When asked whether she would love to do more women-centric roles, the actress said, "I am content doing content-oriented roles. I choose movies where there is a play in the screenplay. It should serve a cause. Be it 36 Vayadhinile, Ratchasi or Ponmagal Vandhaal, I liked the message in it and loved to be part of it."
Earlier, Jyothika had opened up on working with an extremely talented cast and crew of Ponmagal Vandhal and even having worked with some talented individuals after her wedding. "I've been fortunate to collaborate with extremely talented stars of the 80s in all my films post marriage. I have learnt so much from them. In Ponmagal Vandhal, all the yesteryear stars had a clear understanding of their roles and gave their fullest. Parthiban sir and Bhagiyaraj sir improvised a lot during their takes and added so much value. I believe I have had my best onscreen chemistry in the last decade with Parthiban sir."
